RPS connect the lines for London's Alternative Monopoly Run

Last weekend Scouts from Newport and around the UK organised a national fundraising event, The Alternative Monopoly Run, to allow staff to raise funds for their chosen charity or cause within Scouting.

Participants attended the locations on the standard London Monopoly Board, as well as took part in a host of other challenges along the way. Not only did attendees pass through the coloured streets, they also visited the Railways Stations, the Utilities and got creative with Chance and Community Chest cards.

The staffing for the event was largely made up of Explorer Scouts, aged between 14-18 years old, as well as adult Leaders who oversaw the running of the day. The purpose of the event was to allow Explorers to learn a variety of skills needed to run a large event, including organisation, communication and accounting.

Fellow Welsh company, RPS Technology Solutions, worked with the Scouts to provide temporary telecommunications for the event. RPS provided a centralised number for all onsite resources to communicate via, and certain members of the safety, bookings, shop and canteen teams had desktop and mobile handsets to use throughout the day.

Lee Wells, Event Coordinator of Alternative Monopoly Run said: "We had a lot of fun organising the Alternative Monopoly Run; the event put a spin on the much-loved family board game and was a fantastic day for all those involved! The money raised will be distributed between all of the Scout's chosen charities and causes.

"We'd like to say a special thank you to RPS Technology Solutions for their contribution. Without their support we may not have been able to organise such a well-coordinated event and the phones were perfect for ensuring everything ran smoothly."

Ron Griffiths, Managing Director of RPS Technology Solutions, said: "We were delighted to be able to provide our services to the Newport Scouts. Being able to support clubs from our local area raise money for their chosen charities is something we thoroughly enjoyed, and we hope to continue working closely with the Scouts in the future."
